Gabriel Mark Lipper’s
Fine Art and Oil Painting Classes for 2013

The New Year is a perfect time to start from the top.  This term, we will be sharpening our artistic tools and readying ourselves for an exciting year of artistic exploration.  This term will be spent drawing and painting still lifes.  Nothing hones our ability to see like the study of several inanimate objects placed in various interactive spatial relationships. The still life allows us to get quickly beyond our preconceived notions of how we think things are supposed to be, and begin to see them as they are.  The finite nature of these studies forces us to still our minds.  It’s only when we draw and paint from this place of presence, that great art is possible.  I hope that you will join me in slowing down, and digging in to the work at hand.  Weather we’re at the beginning of our artistic journey, or nearing mastery, we all benefit from this exercise.  To the trenches!

A little peak into my process.  I start with a toned drawing (usually in my favorite color) and then paint directly over the top.  This piece isn’t quite finished, but it’s close.
